어제밤 채널을 돌리다가 우연히 EBS에서 "여인의 향기(Scent of a woman)"라는 오래전 영화를 방영하고 있는 것을 발견하였다.
이미 영화는 끝부분을 향해서 치닫고 있었다.
징계위원회에서 알 파치노가 대사하는 장면에서 예전에는 미처 생각하지 못하고 무심코 지나쳤던 대사가 나의 마음에 와 다았다.
지금까지 나는 나의 인생에서 가림길들을 직면하였습니다. 나는 어떤것이 올바른 길인지 항상 알고 있었습니다.
여기까지 듣고 그 다음 알 파치노가 할 이야기를 유추해보았다.
'찰리를 변호하기 위해서 알 파치노가 왔고
그러면 자신의 논리가 옳다고 주장을 할거고,
그러기 위해서는 자신이 옳은 일을 했었다는 경험을 말하고
동의를 이끌어 낼 것이다.
따라서 자신이 인생의 선택의 갈림길에서 올바른 길을 선택했다고 말할 것이다.'고 생각했다.
그러나 그는 반대의 길을 갔다고 말한다.
예외없이 올바른 길을 알고 있었지만 나는 결코 그 길을 택하지 않았습니다. 당신은 왜 그런지 아십니까? 그 길은 너무나 더럽게 어려웠습니다.
지금 여기에 찰리가 있습니다. 그는 갈림길에 있습니다.
그는 길을 선택했습다. 올바른 길을. 그 길은 인격을 만들어가는 신념으로 만든 길입니다.

정말 멋진 대사라고 생각된다.
그러면 나는 인생의 갈림길에서 올바른 길을 걸었을까? 아니 올바른 길을 알고는 있는 것일까? 하는 의문이 든다.
아무튼 좋은 영화임은 틀림이 없다.
